Martin Luther King's Day

This has been the most memorable MLK weekend for me. The others came and went with out undue significance. His life was celebrated in parades, services etc... people stayed the same. This year, I went to a funeral for someone else who had touched the world, who had left under violent circumstances but the difference was the circumstances were his own. I celebrated Richard Beckman's life and work, and then later on MLK's birthday I celebrated Bro. Martin's life. It was a profound day for me. Here were two magical lives, that touched so many. One touched a nation, and the world, one touched his students and his world.

Richard was bi-polar, he stopped taking his meds. I am bi-polar, I have stopped taking my meds. He was an artist. I am an artist. He had such presence and touched so many. I am a force, and I touch so many lives. The difference...I am alive, and I refuse to not be that way.

That night at the Performing Arts Theater the community came together and celebrated Dr. King's life in one of the most beautiful programs I have ever seen. There was unity, diversity and the truest representation of Dr. King's dream I have seen in a long time. The program closed with a movin performance by a large gospel choir from St. Pete with 5 children doing interpretive dance/signing... There was a little boy there who was wheelchair bound who soared and flew and drew us in as if that wheel chair wasn't there at all...the song they did was entitled, "I Need You To Survive." I wish I could adequately describe what I saw and heard but all I can say it was wonderful, silencing, uplifting and life changing.

I Need You to Survive
by Hezekiah Walker

I need you
You need me
We're all a part of God's Body
Stand with me
Agree with me
We're all a part of God's body
It is His will that every need be supplied
You are important to me
I need you to survive.
I pray for you
You pray for me
I love you
I need you to survive
I won't harm you with words from my mouth
I love you
I need you to survive
It is His will that every need be supplied
You are important to me
I need you to survive.

Thank You G-D!
It was quite a day.
